Day trip to Hailuoto – the unique island in the Bay of Bothnia

Hailuoto is the largest island in the Bay of Bothnia and the only entire municipality in Finland named as a national landscape because of its unique landscape and natural conditions. Sandy dune beaches, the living sea, clean pine forests and extensive lichen cover, as well as unique birdlife, fauna and flora, create the island's unique environment.

During the trip you will hear about

  • How Hailuoto has been shaped over millennia by waves, land uplift, currents, ice and wind 
  • Biodiversity of Hailuoto Island
  • Production of ecological beef grazing on coastal meadows
  • Local food and craft traditions

During the trip you will see and experience

  • Ferry Oulu-Hailuoto-Oulu
  • Guided scenic walk in the ripariang areas 
  • Marjaniemi Lighthouse and marine community
  • Dune sand beaches and nature trails
  • Local brewery “Hailuodon panimo” 
  • Craft shop “Luovon Puoji”
  • Lunch with local ingredients
